What led you to start your business and how long have you been in business? Where are you located? Do you offer services outside of your state?
Before I owned my owned shop, I saw that many barbers did not run their shops with integrity. Certain clients were charged more than others and sometimes I would witness illegal activities while at work. After some time I decided to open up my own shop.
Barbering is more than just cutting hair, it is a ministry. I have been in business for 5 years and located in the Fort Mill/Indian Land Area in SC. I also offer services outside of state if needed.
What do you enjoy most about being a business owner in the barber industry?
I enjoy talking with people. Mentoring people. Listening to others. I feel like the art of listening is being lost. Being a barber gives me the opportunity to listen to others when they decide to be vocal and express themselves. I also enjoy being my own boss and giving myself a chance to make great money week in and week out. Building relationships with my clients is a very rewarding aspect of my career.
What are some of your hobbies that you have outside of work?
I like to play drums, I like to draw, I love to workout.
How are you and your business making a positive impact in your local community or society today?
We are making an impact by seeing people for who they are. We are making an impact by giving them a space to be them with no judgement.
What is your biggest success to date? Something you are most proud of.
Starting my own business. Being able to be a Black owner in a predominantly White area. Having a business that is high in demand.
How did you hear about TFMA? What has been your experience so far?
I heard about TFMA from on of my clients who went to school with Jon Brown. My experience with his team has been great. They have been a few hick-ups here and there on my and there but they are very patient, helpful, and understanding.
What do you enjoy most about the services provided by TFMA?
I enjoy the realness. One night I was on the phone with TFMA for our weekly meeting, and my wife kept asking me about buying some tickets for the Holidays during the meeting. I didn’t think he heard her asking about the tickets. After the meeting Jonathan said, "so what is this ticket talk about?" I told him about it, and he said hold on, let me look at your bank & budgets. He checked the bank and incorporated the ticket cost into my monthly budget right then and there. He has always been on point and has helped allow me to focus on my profession.
Would you refer TFMA to your family, friends or peers?
Yes I would, and I have. I have referred one client to TFMA and I plan on sending more their way!
